What We Do

Our Current Projects

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

The Financial Stability Partnership, in collaboration with IRS and local nonprofit organizations, coordinates free income tax preparation for low- to middle-income families at a variety of physical locations and online during filing season.

Why is this free tax preparation program important? VITA directly helps people who don’t make a lot of money to get what they’ve earned. Even if a taxpayer isn’t eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), VITA saves them hundreds of dollars in preparation fees.

Opportunity Youth Program with Harmony House

Harmony House has added an Education and Employment Specialist position to the Jobs First team whose focus is on disconnected youth. Jobs First is a supported employment program modeled after the Housing First principle and was the first of its kind nationally. Instead of working with job candidates by training them before they apply for jobs, Jobs First helps them find jobs right away and continues to assist them while they are employed.

Disconnected youth are 16 to 24 year-olds who may have dropped out of high school or college? may have been involved in the criminal justice system? may have aged out of a foster care program? may have mental or health conditions that have inhibited their activities? or may have caregiving responsibilities.  This project helps identify youth, help them get back into an educational environment and/or employment.
